Compared with SSAW, the price difference between ERW steel pipe and SSAW steel pipe is not significant. The length of SSAW weld is about 2~3 times that of ERW weld, and its internal weld tumor has no technical ability to be removed, so it inevitably increases the friction resistance of the inner wall of the pipe when conveying medium. ERW weld length is short, the internal weld tumor can be removed. When the medium flows in the pipe, the friction generated by the inner wall of the pipe is smaller than that of spiral welded pipe.

According to the results of residual stress measurement, ERW welded pipes form less internal stress in the circumferential direction, which is favorable to the pipe. For spiral welded pipe, due to its larger weld area, there are both tensile and compressive stresses inside the weld, and the stress state is more complicated than that of ERW pipe, which is related to the forming process of spiral welded pipe. The wide range of tensile stresses on the inner wall of the weld seam and heat-affected zone of SSAW steel pipe will adversely affect the crack sprouting and stress corrosion of the inner wall defects.ERW steel pipe has shorter welded joints (compared with spiral seam steel pipe), uniform wall thickness, stable length, high geometric accuracy, corrosion resistance, and easy to ensure the quality of assembly and welding. At the same time, due to the engineering gas contains a small amount of water and carbon dioxide, weakly acidic, should not be used spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe.
